Sunny Success for Time to Talk Day: 300 Conversations on Mental Health in Salford

Our Mind in Salford and Metrolink team took a giant step toward improving mental health awareness on Time to Talk Day as over 300 conversations took place across Salford Quays. The purpose of the campaign was to encourage open dialogue about mental health and for people to get comfortable having these conversations. We saw the powerful impact of sharing stories and offering support.

The day kicked off bright and early with information stands set up at Starbucks, where the team engaged busy morning coffee-goers from 8-11 am. Our Keolis Amey Metrolink team signposted commuters on the Salford Quays platform to the Starbucks nearby where we had a welcoming space for these vital conversations. The team worked hard, offering flyers, resources, and welcoming talks, with the hope of making it easier for people to open up. Complimentary Starbucks was also on offer!

Next, we took to Media City tram stop, where the work continued to engage commuters about the importance of mental health awareness and inviting them to learn more about the campaign. Conversations were had with students, media professionals, teachers, construction workers, journalists and more. Local police on duty were given a supply of our ‘talking tips’ to share with their team and to support them in protecting the mental health of the Salford community.

Through the efforts of the wonderful team and partners, the Time to Talk Day initiative sparked over 300 mental health conversations, showing just how powerful the simple act of talking can be. As the campaign reminds us, talking openly and honestly can be the first step toward better mental health.

It’s clear that, as a community, Salford is ready to keep the conversation going—and that mental health matters to us.
