The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run
This year we had a record breaking number of runners taking on the half marathon and 10km to raise awareness and funds for the work that we do.
Our fundraising and communications team set up the cheer zone whilst the race track was silent. At the 12th mile you could find our team, along with staff from Manchester Mind and National Mind, set up with branded flags, motivational signs and cheer sticks to bring the noise! Volunteers also dedicated their time to cheer on the runners and bring the energy!
A total of 32 runners crossed the finish line. We had two of our team members, Matt, our Impact Evaluation and Compliance Manager and Alison, our Training and Business Development Manager. We also had nine incredible nurses from Meadowbrook Mental Health Unit taking on the challenge. This unit is part of Edenfield Hospital where our advocacy service provides Independent Mental Health Advocacy to inpatients in low-secure, medium-secure and high-secure units.
It was also very special to see individual runners dedicating the event in memory of their loved ones, allowing us to continue to provide specialist, high quality mental health services to those who need it.
Last but certainly not least, 17 runners from the Two Pints Deep Suicide Prevention Community gave their all to the half marathon. In January, Two Pints Deep chose us as their charity partner. They have hosted several events to support their local mind, with the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run being the finale. Over £4,500 has been raised to fund vital mental health training in Salford. Such incredible support!
Our Communications Lead, Emily, was responsible for capturing the day through photography and videography content. Check out our socials for visuals from the day.
For a lot of runners, this was their first ever race, with people running further and faster than they have ever before. It was amazing to see such incredible dedication.
We can’t wait for next year already!
Speaking of…early sign ups are now available for the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run on Sunday the 18th of May. If you are thinking of taking on the challenge for your local Mind, please reach out to our Fundraising Manager, Kat, who can organise this for you ([email protected]).
